For nearly a decade, Bonnie worked as an urban paramedic, frequently encountering tragedy and lives abruptly cut short.
She developed an awareness of the tenuousness of life, and resolved to use her time on earth to make a positive impact. She obtained her BSN through Southern Vermont College, graduating valedictorian. At the University of Pennsylvania she obtained her Masters degree and became a nurse-midwife and nurse practitioner. She has delivered babies in high-tech hospitals in Harrisburg and Erie, PA, and in in lamp-lit Amish bedrooms. She is currently in practice as a Certified Nurse-Midwife at Hamilton Health Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, caring for an underserved, culturally diverse inner city population. Bonnie creates original artwork in graphite, oils, watercolor, pen and ink, colored pencil, oils, and acrylic. Her works express a boundless passion for nature, babies, horses, and life. She photographs horses, mothers and babies at their homes in the Harrisburg, PA area through Muse Prints Photography. Her first book, Hoofprints in the Sand, Wild Horses of the Atlantic Coast,
was published in spring, 2002, by Eclipse Press after 6 years of research. Her second book, Essentials of Prehospital Maternity Care, was published by Prentice Hall in 2005.
Her artwork and articles have also been published in magazines and professional journals.
She is joyfully married to Alex Gruenberg, and is the mother of two grown children. She has always had a passion for horses, and she loves to trail ride on her Connemara gelding, Fancy, also known as Mr. Pone.
